[Bug 378723] Re: Broadcom Wireless BCM4311 (rev 02) not supported in karmic koala

2009-06-17 Thread Pablo Marchant
Im also affected by this. Its not that the wireless device doesnt
connect, it doesnt even appear listed in the nm-applet. Also, the
hardware controllers dont show the broadcom controllers anymore.

As I had done for Hardy, I tried installing the b43-fwcutter package,
but this didnt helped.

To make it work, I had to use ndiswrapper, by downloading this file
http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R174291.exe
Extract it, install and run ndiswrapper:

sudo apt-get install ndisgtk
sudo ndisgtk

And install bcmwl5.inf that is among the extracted files above. Of
course, I needed to be connected to a wired network to do this.

[Bug 378723] Re: Broadcom Wireless BCM4311 (rev 02) not supported in karmic koala

2009-05-29 Thread SRElysian
Did you have pre-release repositories enabled in Jaunty before dist-
upgrading? I had this same issue when I tried to do a dist-upgrade. I
then decided (since my linux install was minimal), to do a full CD
install of karmic. My wifi worked absolutely fine, until I enabled pre-
release to get KDE 4.3beta to play with. After reboot, my wifi failed to
connect.. it would continually try.. but would fail to hold a
connection. After checking "dmesg" I found my logs littered with these:

it would occasionally ask me to re-enter my password for the router..
but still continually fail until I eventually cancelled it out. I am
currently using my 50ft lan cable to keep internet connection on my
laptop.
