[Bug 389718] Re: Ntsf-3g is corrupting NTFS structure.
@Turbo: as you can read on the page freddy linked in comment #5 the nfts-3g stance on this bug is Status: Not NTFS-3G problem. so they have no intention on fixing this bug, thus the Status is Invalid. [Bug 389718] Re: Ntsf-3g is corrupting NTFS structure.
Hi, Why the bug was renamed as INVALID ?? Clearly something is not completely right with Ntfs-3g's behavior inside a NTFS structure. Don't you think there is something to do about it ?? Good interacting between two foreign systems is what we talk about here. Please, take another look, anything, a simple warning about the results. Just remember the amount of square heads (and Lawyers) waiting in Redmond to speak about the dangerous or buggy that Ubuntu/Linux is. By closing the eyes with a very small thing like this we are giving them what they want. Or if you prefer, think about an attack to an NTFS disk around the globe, just using malformed invalid chars and presto, the disaster is served. Best Regards. Does renaming the file fixes the issue?, I have had similar issues on my NTFS external drive, which some mp3 files name with some characters like : or ? did open in windows nor I could rename it and it works fine in Ubuntu... -- Ntsf-3g is corrupting NTFS structure. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389718 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 389718] Re: Ntsf-3g is corrupting NTFS structure.
Hi, you are right ! In fact, just a couple of hours after I posted the bug, I realized that, effectively, there was a : character in the file name. After been renamed (from Ubuntu), it worked fine. That's great ! But we still have a bug here because Nfts-3g should parse and analyse the characters forming the filenames and folders and emit some kind of warning about this special chars (:,*,/,\,?, etc), not allowed by Windows in their pathnames. [Bug 389718] Re: Ntsf-3g is corrupting NTFS structure.
Exporting the NTFS volume via SAMBA ?? :-o Then I agree about the renaming or maybe changing Nautilus and the Console so it takes note when you are copying between NTFS drives or from EXT to NTFS. From my point of view, this solution seems easier. Curious because after all, Ntfs-3g is working with a foreign file system and I can't remember in the last 15 years a single time when Windows said It's Ok to use special chars in filenames... Any comments ?? Regards.
