Is this still an issue with a more recent version of Kubuntu? Indeed it may be a video card problem. During those two seconds I cannot hit the turnoff button as it is not visible. All I see during this time is a white box. After the fade efect is done, the box will correctly show the buttons. To be precise: the fade animation takes exactly two seconds. But it does not delay the shutdown dialog as the title of this bug reports says. It is just an animation shown when the shutdown dialog is shown. Making it configurable would be a simple task, but I'm not sure if this needs a config dialog. I am able to confirm this with my current setup, which is Karmic with KDE 4.3 Beta 2. I have searched upstream reports without any luck concerning this issue at this time, however there are similar, yet reversed, issues reported upstream and that this occurs with compositing disabled. Another thing, and I hate to do this, is it could very well be a video driver issue. I am using the Intel driver on a GM965/GL960 controller, and we know there are still issues with the Intel drivers unfortunately.
