Public bug reported: It can be when I'm using any sound-related application - VLC, Firefox, Mplayer - the sound won't come out right but will sound like a very quickly-skipping CD. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, and other times after it's done it for a while the sound just dies completely.
It also occasionally does it with the drum roll on the login page, so the drums continue for as long as I'm logged in to Ubuntu. I'm using version 9.04.
