[Bug 396718] Re: [jaunty] system randomly shuts off
If the temperature goes above the critical trip point an emergency shutdown would be expected. The question is why the temperature is rising so much. We heard of some cases but it was hard to get it repeated and more information, so help is welcome. In theory the temp would need to go higher than 150F/66C, but that might be going quicker than the update. Is there something defined in /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/???/trip_points? Do you know which kernel version seemed to work ok last? Also, is it possible to check the fan speed? The Dells I got can use the i8k module and the cat /proc/i8k, not sure this works with your model. Otherwise from the sound of the fan, does it sound like it went to higher speeds before and now does not run or runs slower than before? ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Stefan Bader (stefan-bader-canonical) -- [jaunty] system randomly shuts off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/396718 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It may also be instructive to try one of the latest mainline kernel builds and report on that. v2.6.31-rc2 from the mainline builds archive might be appropriate, these can be found at the URL below: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds Please report back here.
