[Bug 398102] Re: pppoeconf overwrites DNS server

2009-09-08 Thread petski
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=416183 gives a hint; to
achieve this behavior, one could edit /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/usepeerdns

[Bug 398102] Re: pppoeconf overwrites DNS server

2009-09-04 Thread petski
When you run pppoeconf it will eventually ask You need at least one
DNS IP address to resolve the normal host names. Normally your provider
sends you addresses of useable servers when the connection is
established. Would you like to add these addresses automatically to the
list of nameservers in your local /etc/resolv.conf file? (recommended).
I wonder what your choice was.

Before you run your test, could you please check if ppp is running (ps
waux | grep ppp)? If it does, please stop it before you re-run your
test.

[Bug 398102] Re: pppoeconf overwrites DNS server

2009-09-04 Thread Michael Evdokimov
Hello!

First attempt was answered YES to your question. And it removed the
previous dns server.

ubu...@ubuntu:~$ ps waux | grep ppp
ubuntu 10314 0.0 0.0 3004 768 pts/0R+ 22:47 0:00 grep ppp
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# /etc/resolv.conf
# Autogenerated by casper
search lan
domain lan
nameserver 192.168.15.1

ubu...@ubuntu:~$ sudo pppoeconf
Plugin rp-pppoe.so loaded.
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 213.187.127.130
nameserver 193.233.48.66
# /etc/resolv.conf
# Autogenerated by casper
search lan
domain lan

Second attempt was answered NO to your question. And as a result we do
not have internet dns servers.

ubu...@ubuntu:~$ ps waux | grep ppp
ubuntu 11285 0.0 0.0 3004 760 pts/0R+ 22:56 0:00 grep ppp
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# /etc/resolv.conf
# Autogenerated by casper
search lan
domain lan
nameserver 192.168.15.1

ubu...@ubuntu:~$ sudo pppoeconf
Plugin rp-pppoe.so loaded.
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# /etc/resolv.conf
# Autogenerated by casper
search lan
domain lan
nameserver 192.168.15.1

[Bug 398102] Re: pppoeconf overwrites DNS server

2009-08-02 Thread Adil Arif
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Judging from your description, I am going to assign this
bug to the pppoeconf package in hopes that it will have a faster
response. If you believe that I have chosen the wrong package, please
change your bug to the correct one. Good luck on getting it fixed!

** Package changed: ubuntu = pppoeconf (Ubuntu)
