It appears as if part of the system thinks the screen is only 1680x1050
big.
Here is for example the ouput of synergy client:

Another weird thing. For some reason I rebooted, and after that the screen was in mirror mode again. I changed it to two screens and see the wonder, now the above problem is not present. I guess a reboot cures everything...
