[Bug 403564] Re: Incorrect recall warning for Lenovo T61

DeviceKit-power is reporting the battery is recalled, assigning this bug
to DeviceKit-power as GPM is reporting what DKP is telling it.

I personally do not consider this a duplicate. Not being able to hide
the recall message, and the recall message being wrong (not contain the
correct information as the battery is not being recalled) are two
different problems.

Yes, these are two separate bug symptoms most likely caused by the
same thing (incomplete battery recall functionality). Upstream
developers have been rolling out the recall warning recently and these
two bugs, which are different, showed up at the same time (from 2.27.1
- 2.27.2). Ideally it will be fixed in 2.27.3 as it is more complete,
but if not I was planning on sending them both upstream as two bugs,
but referencing each other. I put them together so I don't lose track
of them. Thanks for checking up on it, and if it persists past the
next revision (2.27.3, which should occur within a few days), please
forward your bug upstream. Forwarding instructions are at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you forward the bug,
please post a link to the upstream bug report here.

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I've got a Lenovo battery with:
 ASM P/N: 92P1142
 FRU P/N: 92P1141
 (top right corner of label)

So, I get a recall warning pointing me to the website[1]. I can't run the
automated checking system, so I called support. Turns out: there is no
recall. The problem is that I have a Lenovo T61 and the T61 is not in the
list of machines for which the battery is recalled. Also, 14 moths is more
then 12 so it's not in warranty either :(

My feelings aside, on to the bug: if the battery is seen inside a T61, it is
not being recalled, only if it is seen in another model. I'm not sure how
that works, but it probably has something to do with the shipping dates of
 these models?

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 402287 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/402287

The recall warning is not a new thing. My laptop did in fact have a
battery recall. However, it was about 2-2.5 years ago, and my battery
has already been replaced. And I got the recall warning then, did the
recall and told the notice to leave me alone. I haven't gotten such a
notice until upgrading to Karmic, presumably because of the switch to
DeviceKit, and how it and g-p-m have regressed from HAL a bit.

2009-07-23 Thread Scott Howard
Ok, since one bug is new and one is an old one resurfacing, I think
you're right that they should be un-duped. If the bug exists after the
next version of GPM and/or devicekit, this bug (not following the
leave me along request) should be forwarded upstream to GNOME.
