this problem. Tried to change the 'Enable mouse clicks with touchpad' option,
but it did not helped. Maybe there is some GConf key I can Change?

[Bug 404219] Re: Touchpad Tap Clicking Broken (scrolling also)

2009-09-15 Thread Ben Aultowski
While stardust85 might should considered wording his reply differently,
disabling clicking with the touchpad by default is a *very strange*
choice. I also installed Karmic Alpha 5, and was baffled that a
functionality that works in every other operating system, and every
previous release of Ubuntu, was suddenly broken. Heck, it took me a
minute realize I should even *try* the buttons below my touchpad. I
assumed it was a bug, and after searching, found this report.

[Bug 404219] Re: Touchpad Tap Clicking Broken (scrolling also)

2009-09-15 Thread mac_v
while everyone is commenting about this... Does anyone remember the default in
Widows ?
AFAIK it also sets the tap-to-click by default to off.

So i dont think it new users will find it difficult or awkward.

Dont get me wrong , i *do* use the tap-to-click and i dont have any
problems with it being enabled by default.

But if the commenters here are really interested in setting this as the
default it *needs* to be discussed in the mailing list or atleast open a
new bug , adding comments to a closed bug is not going to fix anything.

I have to agree with Max. Tap-to-click is confusing behavior? It is
confusing to try to tap your touchpad, have it not click, be new to the
operating system and not know where to look to change the setting. This
would be a huge papercut if you ask me.

Vertical scrolling works on my laptop as usual,

Like the forum discussion states, synclient tapbutton1=1 enables
tapping for some.

using synclient horizedgescroll=1 horizontal scroll acts like an vertical one.
But that may just be an malformed command...

2009-07-24 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for your bug report. It seems upstream are using different
GConf keys for the touchpad settings now, so gnome-mouse-properties is
modifying the wrong keys. We need to port gnome-mouse-properties to the
new keys and also make sure gnome-settings-daemon migrates existing
configs.

I don't have a touchpad to test this on, although I can largely test the
profile migration. Will one of you test this once I've worked on it?

2009-07-24 Thread Wayne Cat
Chris,

I can test it ... and I'm sure others will also support you.

btw: I was wrong ... vertical scrolling does work ... i can use a small area on
the right side of my
touchpad.

This is actually already fixed upstream in g-c-c, and will be in the

[Bug 404219] Re: Touchpad Tap Clicking Broken (scrolling also)

2009-07-24 Thread Dana Goyette
Hmm, something new I just noticed: the latest gnome-settings-daemon FORCES me
to choose either two-finger scrolling OR edge-scrolling, and does not allow
both -- thus overriding my preference I have set in a custom FDI file! In
addition, it's not content to just reset the settings once it does it over
and over and over again. Can we please add a third possible value for the
gconf key?
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/vert_scroll_delta
Current values:
0 - disabled.
1 - edge.
2 - two-finger.
3 - DOES NOT EXIST, should be both.

If we can't do that, then I'll have to find another way to make Gnome
keep its grubby little hands off the thing, to use a figure of speech.
