In my case, all problems were resolved. The current version of Karmic Koala, updated daily, works fine with the ATI 4870. In version 9.10, I can not prove it, because after the last update, with the kernel .9, I can not get into the system, I can not move from the window where you specify the password. When I install the driver proprietary, through the Ubuntu system, the monitor is blocked and does not display image.. I had to reinstall the system, then installed the ATI 9.7 driver, and if the screen had no picture.
