Indeed, after installing Ubuntu 10.04 on the new computer with Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard for the first time I had some problems with the sound that let me think that I have the same problem as on my old computer with GA-MA69GM-S2H motherboard and Ubuntu 8.10, but at the time I had other priorities and had not checked everything in details. Since than I reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04 on that (new) computer (this time with speakers turned on) and stopped using it because of the unusually hot weather this summer (just contunuing to use only the old computer with Ubuntu 8.10 to reduce heat production :)). So, replying positively to Farbio's question if the bug I have reported for Ubuntu 8.10 also pertains Ubuntu 10.04 I did it just "from memory" and without any additional checks which I would definitely do if it would not so terribly hot. After obtaining your requests for making tests on Ubuntu 10.04 I finally checked the "sound problem" on my new computer with Ubuntu 10.04 and found out that at least now, after the second installation of Ubuntu 10.04, the sound driver works. At least just after booting. :) But at the present time I cannot say if the problem of a sudden dropping of the sound (wich I still have on my old computer with Ubuntu 8.10) also pertains to Ubuntu 10.04 because have not used the new computer with Ubuntu 10.04 extensively. If this problem appears I will report it separately. Thank you all for replying to my bug report, and excuse me for giving "a bit incorrect" information about the Ubuntu 10.04 release. It's unclear whether you need the snd-atiixp module or the snd-hda-intel module, because you haven't provided your "apport-collect -p alsa-base 414000" output on all the affected machines.
