[Bug 414838] Re: please package localization files separately
2.8.6-1ubuntu1 is the current package in Lucid which contains the new wordpress-l10n binary. Marking Fix Released. ** Changed in: wordpress (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Fix Released -- please package localization files separately https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414838 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 414838] Re: please package localization files separately
Over the last couple of weeks I coached Alex to prepare the necessary changes for fixing this bug. Last week, Giuseppe has made an upload to Debian that obliviated the need to any particular Ubuntu changes. Therefore, I suggest to merge 2.8.4-3 from Debian unstable to fix this bug. Thank you Alex and Giuseppe for working on this. [Bug 414838] Re: please package localization files separately
A good start point is to ask upstream to clarify license for all localization files. -- please package localization files separately https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414838 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Giuseppe Iuculano wrote: A good start point is to ask upstream to clarify license for all localization files. Not really. If there is anything that needs to be done wrt the copyright file, then that would be a bug in itself, only slightly related to this one. One issue, one ticket, please. This one is strictly about packaging and has nothing to do with upstream. Work is already progressing, btw. -- please package localization files separately https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414838 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

So if you are going to package some files with no license (and yes, this is a bug also in the current wordpress package), Isn't this related to the new package? Giuseppe Iuculano wrote: So if you are going to package some files with no license (and yes, this is a bug also in the current wordpress package), Isn't this related to the new package? Again, if there is currently a problem, then it's a bug, but not this bug. One isse, one ticket as I already said. Please open a separate ticket if you think there is a problem with copyright. PS: Because you make such a fuss here (in the wrong place, really), I just had a look at debian/copyright. Haha! You are the Debian maintainer. So, if there's anything fishy about the copyright, that's been your doing! As such, I also see it mainly as your responsibility to fix it. But I repeat myself in that I agree a potential copyright violation is serious, but it doesn't have anything to do with this task which is only about putting file A in package X and file B in package Y. ** Changed in: wordpress (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress ** Changed in: wordpress (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist -- please package localization files separately https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414838 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

But I repeat myself in that I agree a potential copyright violation is serious, but it doesn't have anything to do with this task which is only about putting file A in package X and file B in package Y. I don't know if is the same in Ubuntu, but if I split i18n files in a separate package, it will go in NEW queue, and so, yes, if there is a copyright issue Debian ftpmaster (but I think also Ubuntu ftpmaster) will *never* accepted that change. Asserting that this is not relevant is only a waste of time for ftpmaster that will reject the new wordpress-l10n package. So I repeat, from my Debian maintainer point of view (but I think you really check that also in Ubuntu) this *is* a preliminary and *mandatory* check. Anyway, is evident that my fuss is not appreciated here, I will no waste my time for wordpress Ubuntu bugs anymore. Re: [Bug 414838] Re: please package localization files separately
Giuseppe, your work in Debian and you pointing out this potential (!) copyright problem here is appreciated ... Giuseppe Iuculano wrote: I don't know if is the same in Ubuntu, but if I split i18n files in a separate package, it will go in NEW queue, and so, yes, if there is a copyright issue ... but eventually you will need to understand that you're still raising a new issue, separate from this one. The bug you are talking about is already in the package in the archive. So, that obviously (!) is a separate issue from this one. Furthermore, your line of reason applies to all other wordpress bugs as well. They need to fix the copyright issue, too, before they can make any new uploads of the wordpress package (or perpetuate the copyright-issue ridden state). So, please, go ahead and do what you did here in every other wordpress ticket on launchpad as well! Nobody is proposing an upload, yet. Your initial hint has been duly noted and appreciated. OTOH, your subsequent failure to see this for what it is, an independent issue that can and should be independently fixed, is a distraction and unwelcome. That would be no different in Debian or Ubuntu. Thank you for your attention. -- please package localization files separately https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414838 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes it is a separate issue but it is a blocker for the resolution of this one. Furthermore, your line of reason applies to all other wordpress bugs as well. No it doesn't. OTOH, your subsequent failure to see this for what it is, an independent issue that can and should be independently fixed, is a distraction and unwelcome. That would be no different in Debian or Ubuntu. No, it isn't an independent issue,at least in Debian; but if Ubuntu ftpmaster will accept a new package with an evident copyright issue (and I doubt it, I really hope they won't), do it.
