Public bug reported: Since I did an Ubuntu update this morning (which contained an update to the kernel) I have not been able to resume my computer from Suspend or Hibernate.
Steps to reproduce (at least on my machine) 1. Boot-up 2. Login 3. Suspend (click on my name in the upper-right corner, click on Suspend) 4. Push Power button (to awake and resume) Results: Screen flashes on and then fragments of the screen appear. No mouse movement is available/visible. Computer seems hung and only a complete reboot will restore the computer. Expected Results: Ubuntu awakes and restores to state prior to Suspend Notes: I press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace (which I re-enabled to work from the original Ubuntu install), to see if I can kill and reset X, but this does not work either. I tried to go to a terminal screen (example ctrl+alt+F3) and nothing happens. Even if I do a fresh reboot and Suspend or Hibernate from the login screen the same problem occurs. I do notice the following in the error logs: Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156295] ------------[ cut here ]------------ Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156296] WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.28/kernel/power/main.c:177 suspend_test_finish+0x80/0x90() Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156297] Component: suspend devices Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156298] Modules linked in: hidp binfmt_misc btusb ppdev bridge stp bnep input_polldev joydev sbp2 lp parport snd_hda_intel pcmcia snd_pcm_oss snd_mixer_oss snd_pcm arc4 snd_seq_dummy ecb snd_seq_oss snd_seq_midi snd_rawmidi snd_seq_midi_event snd_seq snd_timer snd_seq_device iwlagn iwlcore snd psmouse yenta_socket rsrc_nonstatic thinkpad_acpi sdhci_pci soundcore iTCO_wdt serio_raw pcspkr video pcmcia_core fglrx(P) ricoh_mmc sdhci led_class nvram intel_agp snd_page_alloc iTCO_vendor_support mac80211 output agpgart cfg80211 ohci1394 ieee1394 e1000e fbcon tileblit font bitblit softcursor Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156327] Pid: 3584, comm: pm-suspend Tainted: P 2.6.28-15-generic #48-Ubuntu Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156329] Call Trace: Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156333] [<c0139ba0>] warn_slowpath+0x60/0x80 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156335] [<c015393a>] ? down_trylock+0x2a/0x40 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156337] [<c013a1fd>] ? try_acquire_console_sem+0xd/0x30 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156342] [<c02c7c50>] ? kobject_put+0x20/0x50 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156346] [<c04fdfc6>] ? printk+0x18/0x1a Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156348] [<c01651e0>] suspend_test_finish+0x80/0x90 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156350] [<c0165255>] suspend_devices_and_enter+0x65/0x160 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156352] [<c04fdfc6>] ? printk+0x18/0x1a Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156354] [<c0165539>] enter_state+0xc9/0x100 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156355] [<c01655ed>] state_store+0x7d/0xc0 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156357] [<c0165570>] ? state_store+0x0/0xc0 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156359] [<c02c7b14>] kobj_attr_store+0x24/0x30 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156362] [<c020af42>] sysfs_write_file+0x92/0xf0 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156365] [<c01bdde8>] vfs_write+0x98/0x110 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156367] [<c020aeb0>] ? sysfs_write_file+0x0/0xf0 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156369] [<c01bdf1d>] sys_write+0x3d/0x70 Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156371] [<c0103f6b>] sysenter_do_call+0x12/0x2f Aug 18 16:45:29 fh-jeffdcamp kernel: [ 45.156372] ---[ end trace 27ec04dcac0edbda ]--- ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-system-log NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Package: gnome-utils 2.26.0-0ubuntu1 ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-utils Uname: Linux 2.6.28-15-generic i686 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- Ubuntu failes to resume from suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415644 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
