I'm have the same problem in my Thinkpad T40 with Kubuntu 6.06. KDE 3.5.3 and 
KMILO.
After rebooting Kmix window is always there. Closing Kmix doesn't solve the 
issue.

I was able to reproduce this issue as described on my IBM Thinkpad T42.

Kubuntu 6.06 LTS
KDE 3.5.3

Note: If Kmix window is closed, subsequent logins will show the icon in
system tray only.
