python-apt should not read synaptic preferences files, as APT does not either. I'm having a showstopper of a problem with a particular package in Maverick (bug #653443), which worked in the beta, but borks my hardware in a recent update. I'd really like to just pin the one package that's causing the problem, but I can't run a partial upgrade without said package upgrading itself (no matter what I do). This patch should fix the problem, however it does not work for me.
