[Bug 41955] Re: Normal user cannot share folders from home, even if authorised
I got the same error on Hardy Heron with all updates. The problem is that the user is added to the sambashare-group, but this takes first effect after log off/on.. So this should be tested and stated instead of the actual error message. -- Normal user cannot share folders from home, even if authorised https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41955 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 41955] Re: Normal user cannot share folders from home, even if authorised
This error has returned in the latest release of Ubuntu - Hardy Heron. I am trying to share folders on my ubuntu box and I get the exact same error as Townk I am logging into the box remotely using Ubuntu's built-in remote desktop server from a windows box, this might be the reason the error is poping up -- Normal user cannot share folders from home, even if authorised https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41955 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 41955] Re: Normal user cannot share folders from home, even if authorised
I just update my Ubuntu and this bug seems to be fixed. Please anyone else to confirm? -- Normal user cannot share folders from home, even if authorised https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41955 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 41955] Re: Normal user cannot share folders from home, even if authorised
Same here. To my shame I must say, I'm not even sure I updated. Maybe I just rebooted. Though the need for reboots seems to be something for that other os. ;) everything works now. -- Normal user cannot share folders from home, even if authorised https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41955 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

I have exactly the same as Tonwk with Hardy RC in Ubuntu.
I had the same problem but with a different approach: * I right click on my Public folder (which is located on my ~) and choose Share.. * I checked the Share this folder checkbox * Add some comments * Check the Guest access checkbox * Click on Create Share button Then Nautilus shows me the following message: 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error Permission denied You do not have permission to create a usershare. Ask your administrator to grant you permissions to create a share. I checked and my user has the sambashare group and this is the output of an ls -l on /var/lib/samba: drwxrwx--t 2 root sambashare 4096 2008-04-12 18:51 usershares/ I hope this helps. -Thiago -- Normal user cannot share folders from home, even if authorised https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41955 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
