[Bug 419683] Re: gedit crashes while editing. Gives Segmentation fault

2009-11-02 Thread Marius Dumitru Florea
Guys, it would be nice to automatically attach the .crash file to the
exiting issue when I run ubuntu-bug some.crash so that we don't have to
wait for the crash file to be uploaded twice.

don't attach crash files to bug they are made to be sent using apport so
they can be retraced correctly

@Sebastien Bacher: the process outlined above will automatically open a
new bug report

That is not true. After apport uploaded my crash file, I was asked to
check if my issue was not already reported. And it was. Are you
suggesting I should have opened a duplicated bug? That doesn't sound
right to me (why do you show the list of exiting bugs then?). I would
have expected launchpad to either attach the uploaded crash file to the
exiting issue or tell me that the exiting issue already has a crash file
attach and mine will be dropped. But since this issue doesn't have the
crash info and you marked the bug as invalid because of this, I though I
might help by attaching the crash file for further inspection. It seems
my help was not appreciated.

the way those informations are added usually is to open a new bug and to
close it as duplicate after it has been processed by the retracing tools

[Bug 419683] Re: gedit crashes while editing. Gives Segmentation fault

2009-08-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
