[Bug 42027] Re: Frequency/Bandwidth is ZERO/Unknown

2009-09-03 Thread Jonathan Thomas
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Kubuntu better. The KDE3 version of KNetworkManager has been
discontinued by its original authors. This unfortunately means that
there will be no more bugfix releases, and updates in general will be
limited to those fixing security flaws.

While we cannot fix your bug, the good news is that the applet has been
totally rewritten for KDE4 in the upcoming Kubuntu 9.10 release. There
is a good chance that this bug is no longer an issue with the new
applet. If you find any similar or new issues with the applet included
in Kubuntu 9.10, we would politely ask you to file them as new bugs
against the plasma-widget-networkmanagement package.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 42027] Re: Frequency/Bandwidth is ZERO/Unknown

2007-07-03 Thread Leonardo Silva Amaral
I can confirm the Bandwidth issue too, its set to 62mbps. A interesting
thing is the output of nm-tool:

- Device: eth1
  NM Path: /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/eth1
  Type: 802.11 Wireless
  Driver:ndiswrapper
  Active:yes
  HW Address:NO:MA:CH:ER:E!

  Capabilities:
Supported: yes
Speed: 54 Mb/s

  Wireless Settings
Scanning:yes
WEP Encryption: yes
WPA Encryption: yes
WPA2 Encryption: yes

Wireless Networks (* = Current Network)
*MYNETHERE:Infrastructure Mode, Freq 2.437 MHz, Rate 62 Mb/s, Strength
58%, Encrypted (WPA)

  IP Settings:
IP Address: 192.168.0.16
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Broadcast: 192.168.0.255
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Primary DNS: 200.150.13.243
Secondary DNS: 200.150.4.4

The capabilities say its work up to 54mbps, but the network rate is
62mbps.

So, i think its a network-manager bug.

[Bug 42027] Re: Frequency/Bandwidth is ZERO/Unknown

2007-03-04 Thread George
Confirmed on my HP dv6207tx with ipw3945 (Feisty 2.6.20-9). Networks are
found but report no frequency/channel info. Subsequent selection of any
of these networks time out trying to connect at 0.000GHz...

I can confirm this on my MSI MegaBook S262 with ipw3945. Both Frequency
and Bandwidth are displaying `Unknown'.

I've attached a screenshot of what my Atheros card reports when
associated to my wireless access point. I think Bandwidth and Signal
Strength are swapped. Otherwise, it has improved somewhat from Dapper.

It would be interesting to know if edgy version has this bug too.
Can someone give infos on that point ?

Yes, the Edgy version is still affected by this bug, both on an Atheros and
ipw3945 card. It shows nonsensical values for bandwidth (62?)

Those issues are generally due to the card driver itself, or eventually
the wpasupplicant driver, not network-manager or its frontends.

nm-applet presents all the information correctly, which leads me to
believe it's a knetworkmanager problem.
