[Bug 420966] Re: nautilus frequently uses 100% cpu

2009-09-02 Thread Truthiswithin
I figured it out... the problem was setting the templates directory in
.config/user-dirs.dirs as:

XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR=$HOME/Desktop

This causes nautilus to go berserk for some reason; I should have known
better than to set one of the directories to my Desktop, I guess.

2009-08-31 Thread Truthiswithin
Thanks Sebastien, here's a backtrace, but I am not sure I am doing it
right; I get to the part where I type continue and then try to
replicate the problem. After opening a window, nautilus peaks the cpu,
then stops. I have to open a new terminal and type killall nautilus
to continue making the backtrace; CTRL+C doesn't work, as suggested at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace .

[Bug 420966] Re: nautilus frequently uses 100% cpu

2009-08-30 Thread Truthiswithin
I'm enclosing an strace that shows the sequence of events:

1) nautilus running in the background as normal
2) start strace
3) open a folder
3) wait for folder to become responsive
4) close the folder
5) hit CRTL+C to stop strace

The problem occurs even when viewing an empty folder.

don't know if it's related, but the attached screenshot pops up
everytime I try to shut down, and there are really no files being
transferred. Please help, this is really a pain; no file manager, no
access to the desktop, etc. I've resorted to using Thunar as my file
manager, but it doesn't control the desktop.
