  The RS870 HDMI output is not picked up at all, and the Digital output on
  the ALC888 card is missing. All three outputs show on 'aplay -L'

I have the same problem with an M-Audio Transit device - the Digital
outputs are not enumerated.

However if the M-Audio device is present on boot, then the Digital
devices are enumerated.
