[Bug 423388] Re: empathy no longer supports googletalk

2009-09-06 Thread MikeCamel
I'm unable to make this work, I'm afraid. I tried putting in my gmail
account details (m...@hingston.demon.co.uk), adding talk.google.com as
the server, changing the port to 5223, and adding SSL support, but got
network errors. I then tried ticking Ignore SSL certificate errors,
and the empathy now crashes within seconds of starting. If I start it
from a terminal, I get a seg fault and a core dump.

I then manually killed the process running /usr/lib/telepathy/mission-
control-5, which took me back to not having the Ignore SSL certificate
errors ticked.

Empathy no starts without crashing, but I'm not connecting to gtalk.

[Bug 423388] Re: empathy no longer supports googletalk

2009-09-05 Thread Paul Kohler
Confirmed. However, there is a workaround. GoogleTalk is Jabber
compliant. Enter your google email address in the Login ID field and
your password in the password field.

From a usability standpoint, giving these separate choices would likely
make the transition from other clients easier.

Yes, it's reproducible - every time I start empathy.

To reproduce this bug, start up empathy. Add a new account - googletalk
is not listed.
