Loading this dump in the erlang dump viewer doesn't seem to be showing anything useful just yet. I did: $ erl 1 crashdump_viewer:start(). and then started the crashdump viewer from my browser and loaded the file. It seemed to load ok. I can reproduce this on an upgrade also.
sudo /etc/init.d/couchdb start works fine, and gives me a running
couchdb on http://127.0.0.1:5984/_utils/
sudo /etc/init.d/couchdb stop works fine, and shuts down couchdb.

If I become the couchdb user before running /usr/bin/couchdb, it works fine. If I sudo /usr/bin/couchdb it works fine.
