2010-04-10 Thread esdaniel
Sorry for the me too here but... I followed the purge and reinstall
advice and for a while the problem had disappeared however it has now
re-appeared.

When I leave a document window open for an indeterminate amount of time
but at least a good hour or so and then return to it and go to save it
the file dialog is excruciatingly slow to respond to any user
interaction.

2010-01-15 Thread Chris Puttick
Note to people still experiencing this issue: the openoffice.org-kde
update doesn't appear to work properly (two clean installs, to machines,
same problem, same fix). A remove and reinstall seems to sort it.
Specifically this was done at the command line, may well work with
kpackagekit, if not close Openoffice and do

sudo apt-get purge openoffice.org-kde sudo apt-get install openoffice
.org-kde

First time the file browser opens after the update there is a little
lag, after that it all works as expected.

2009-10-26 Thread Murz
Let's close all described in this thread issues and open new bugs if the issue
is exist in 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1 version, or if all fixed - close this large bug.
My tests results:
Fixed:
+ Wrong save format to xls when using kde dialog
+ Automatic file extensions don't work
+ Some buttons (like 'New folder') are missing
+ When try to Save as file with dots in filename in another format, kde
dialog cuts the last part of filename after last dot (one.two.three.ods
filename becomes one.two.xls)
opened new bug

Not reproducible for me:
 - The checkboxes below the file picker widget have no text
 - The settings menu has no text.

Re: [Bug 424132] Re: [kubuntu] OOo KDE file dialog is utterly broken.

2009-10-25 Thread Jakob Lund
This comment is only about the file dialogs.

I got the 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1 package last night, and installed the kde
integration again.

The save, save as and export dialogs have improved. The various check
boxes now have labels, and the filter dropdown is populated with text.
Most importantly, it is now possible to actually save the document and get
on with what you were doing...

Remaining brokenness / usability flaws:

* There is a Automatic file name extension AS WELL as a Automatically
select filename extension (.html). Only one should be needed!
* Only in Export and with the XHTML filter: The file you export may get
as many as three extensions if the file name displayed in the Name field
has an extension and both the automatic boxes are checked. Extensions get
appended one efter the other, for example test.html.html .xhtml (yes there
is a space before `.xhtml'). (The pdf filter doesn't do this.)
* When you Save as or Export files, how are you supposed to know that
you have to select the type of file you want to save in the Filter select
box? This is (always was) a little unintuitive to say the least. Perhaps
change the label to File format or something else.

Thanks to everyone working on this.
Jakob.

Re: [Bug 424132] Re: [kubuntu] OOo KDE file dialog is utterly broken.

2009-10-21 Thread seasoned_geek
It got too big for many reasons.

1) OO was no where near ready for Alpha, let alone beta when it went out
2) Nobody edited the bug description when it was first file to restrict it to
something they thought would be manageable.
3) Roughly 80% of the problems could realistically point back to the file
dialog in an end user's eyes.
4) The bug reporting system is poorly designed. It encourages users to file
their bugs under a heading which closely matches their problem. Let one
heading appear with the text utterly broken and that is going to match 90%
of the bug reports in a user's eyes.

2009-10-21 Thread Chris Cheney
1) Really the issue here was that no one was working on KDE4 support
besides Roman and KDE3 support wasn't working very well so we switched
the the KDE4 support as soon as we could to get the number of bugs down
as quickly as possible.

2) True

3) True

4) True and is a huge issue in that we have no way to even declare old
fixed bugs as dead and not allow new comments on them. I get bug reports
on bugs that have been fixed for many years from users claiming the same
issue (they aren't) is showing up again. Its almost always because the
bug details are too vague for the user to understand they aren't seeing
the same issue. There generally isn't anything that can really be done
to fix that issue except to hopefully one day get support for marking
bugs as locked for new comments.

[Bug 424132] Re: [kubuntu] OOo KDE file dialog is utterly broken.

2009-10-20 Thread Murz
This bug describe many small problems in one package openoffice.org-kde
for fixing which not needs a lot of time for fix and a lot of info. And
all of problems is near each other.

I think that group all of them in one bug is more usable than open new bugs,
for example, with title no new folder button.
Will be good to show the current state of all bug list in first post of bug.
For expample, like this:

List of all found in thread bugs:
 - The default directory is one higher in the hierarchy than it should be (for
instance, it starts in /home. After you save, the next save defaults to one
directory above that)
 - Automatic file extensions don't work
 - Some buttons (like 'New folder') are missing
 - The checkboxes below the file picker widget have no text
 - The settings menu has no text.
- Wrong save format to xls when using kde dialog
- When try to Save as file with dots in filename in another format, kde
dialog cuts the last part of filename after last dot (one.two.three.ods
filename becomes one.two.xls)

Fixed on openoffice.org-kde version 1:3.1.1-4ubuntu2 or earlier:
+ New folder button is added and working correctly
+ Automatic file extensions fixed
+ The default directory is one higher in the hierarchy than it should be

Bugs staying open:
- Wrong save format to xls when using kde dialog
- When try to Save as file with dots in filename in another format, kde
dialog cuts the last part of filename after last dot (one.two.three.ods
filename becomes one.two.xls)

Who can edit the first post of the bug? When I try I see the error Entity-body
was not a well-formed JSON document. on press v icon.

[Bug 424132] Re: [kubuntu] OOo KDE file dialog is utterly broken.

2009-10-15 Thread Murz
New problem - OOo Calc saves wrong xls when openoffice.org-kde package is
installed! without it - saves correctly.
Example:
- Install openoffice-kde in Karmic
- Open OOo Calc
- Create new file, type тест (in russian letters) in cell A1.
- File - Save as, select Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP (.xls), press Save, Keep
format.
- Open this xls file in Microsoft Office Excel 2003.
We see in cell A1

- remove openoffice-kde in Karmic
- Open OOo Calc
- Create new file, type тест (in russian letters) in cell A1.
- File - Save as, select Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP (.xls), press Save, Keep
format.
- Open this xls file in Microsoft Office Excel 2003.
We see тест in cell A1

Attached file test3.xls is created with openoffice-kde is installed,
test4.xls - with removed.

2009-10-15 Thread seasoned_geek
Someone should have changed the description on this one early on if they
didn't want thousands of related problems filed under this same heading. It is
quite difficult for an end user to determine if OO saving document in wrong
format is a problem related to this or from a different part of the system. It
certainly could be related to this, especially with all of those unlabeled
checkboxes.

In a couple of days I will pull down the fixes. My mirror always seems to take
a couple of days to get a new push. In its current state OO is unusable on
KUbuntu.

The short-term workaround to this problem is to delete temporarily the
package openoffice.org-kde.

You can check version numbers in the repository (at the command line:
apt-cache policy packagename; I am sure that the various GUIs can
provide the same information) to see if the fixed version has reached
your repository.

[Bug 424132] Re: [kubuntu] OOo KDE file dialog is utterly broken.

2009-10-07 Thread Roman Shtylman
A quick update on the progress I have been making to fix this bug. Some
of my fixes have already landed and others I am still finishing up a few
things with and will have the patches for the package maintainer very
soon.

B: After saving and then trying to save again the directory is different (one
higher)
 - this should already be fixed, if not available yet it will be soon.
B: automatic file extensions
 - should already be fixed
B: new folder is missing
 - I am looking into it, but currently have no fix
B: checkboxes with no text
 - I have a fix that works around this and provides text, the strange thing is
that when using a style other than Oxygen, there is text
B: menus don't have text
 - related to the checkboxes with no text, but I don't have a fix for this
other than not using Oxygen style
B: moving folder to places causes crash
 - I have a fix for this and will provide patches to maintainers soon
B: file names with # cannot be used
 - seemed to work fine for me
B: export from Draw, no filters visible, only All Files
 - I will look into this and should be able to resolve it
B: inserting images, the 'All Images' filter does not work
 - I will look into it and should be able to fix this
 - as a workaround you can manually clear the filter area
B: saving 'my.file.example.odt' just saves as 'my'
 - worked for me, the autoextension fix might have also solved this

So this leaves a total of 4 outstanding bugs:
B: new folder is missing
B: menus don't have text
B: export from Draw, no filters visible, only All Files
B: inserting images, the 'All Images' filter does not work

The last two I should be able to fix. I cannot confirm a fix for the
first two as I have been trying to resolve that for some time now.

I was told that some people were able to see menus with text...but I
myself cannot confirm this as my menus also don't have text.

2009-10-04 Thread E.T. Anderson
I have also had this experience, and a few others that I think are related to
the openoffice.org-kde package. With the KDE integration installed in the
karmic beta, I cannot add images to Impress slideshows using the menu item. A
dialog comes up and I can select an image, but the dialog blinks (disappears
and comes back) and does not add an image.
I also cannot set a background image because of the same problem. Impress is
unable to Save image as and cannot export a slide to an image file. Once I
removed the KDE integration package, all these problems went away.
When saving as M$ ppt, I have to manually add the extension, but not when
saving as odp.

[Bug 424132] Re: [kubuntu] OOo KDE file dialog is utterly broken.

2009-10-01 Thread Rigo Wenning
In alpha4 I have the problem that the file dialog is taking several
seconds to react on a click. Looking at top, I see many file dialogs
open using lots of memory without actually having a window. Confirm that
trying to add something to places crashes openoffice. I tested the
Jaunty version and there Openoffice 3 still uses a KDE3 file dialog that
works.

[Bug 424132] Re: [kubuntu] OOo KDE file dialog is utterly broken.

2009-09-25 Thread Jeppe Bundsgaard
I think this problem is connected:
When trying to export a drawing as an image file from Draw, there is no filters
available (the Filters drop down says All files).
The only export option I have is through Export as pdf in the Files menu.

[Bug 424132] Re: [kubuntu] OOo KDE file dialog is utterly broken.

2009-09-25 Thread Jeppe Bundsgaard
Two further problems:
- The file dialog is extremely slow when surfing through the directories
- When inserting an image in a Writer text, the All image formats does not
recognize any files - thus for example I have to select the specific file
format (PNG) in the type-drop down to be able to see the PNG-files.
