The i386 version turns out to be 173.14.16 When manually installing via synaptic & showing the details, the following message shows up: Error! could not locate module nvidia.ko for module nvidia in the DKMS tree You must run a dkms build for kernel 2.6.31.9-generic (i686) first. The problem is not DKMS itself. /var/lib/dkms has a directory called nvidia plus a one line file called called dkms_dbversion "2.0.0" /var/lib/dkms/nvidia/173.14.16/build has a file called make.log (attached) /val/log has a file called "dkms_autoinstaller" - contents below: nvidia (173.14.16): Installing module. ...(bad exit status: 10) Build failed. Post the log from /var/lib/dkms/.
