actually, base hardy does not exhibit this behaviour anymore. It's fixed for me, I tried to change the resolution to something lower than the native resolution and back, and it worked fine, no screen corruption. I don't know if this will fix this specific issue, but I've backported a bunch of high importance patches that upstream recommended, that fix problems sort of like this one, so I think it would be worth the time to test. Ok, please attach xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log and output of 'lspci -vvnn' to this bug. I tried to change the resolution with the screen resolution capplet (current gutsy), but it does not change the resolution.
