rojer, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Karmic reached EOL on April 30, 2011. Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, can you please attach all relevant information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. I've read in an opensuse forum (forgot the link) the problem seems to be coz of
the HDD failing to start as the machine resumes.
It fits well with log of this bug report ("No such file or directory" errors).

I`ve just tested with the new BIOS ver 1.13 -> still not resuming from suspend. As far as I know, nobody's able to resume Acer Timeline machines from suspend. I've just upgraded Karmic and the resume still fails with kernel linux-image-2.6.31-10-generic 2.6.31-10.35. More specifically, the machine enters suspend fine and the power led starts to blink orange.
