[Bug 430245] Re: suspend/resume failure (ATI Mobility Radeon X700, kernel 2.6.31-10 Karmic Coala)

2019-02-02 Thread Martin Dauskardt
same problem with Ubuntu 12.04, 16.04, 18.04, 18.10. And even a Bhodi
with Kernel 3.2 shows the same error an resume. Last Distribution which
works with suspend/resume is Ubuntu 9.04.

The workaround with /etc/acpi/sleep.sh force seems to be outdated, as
this file is not present in recent Ubuntus.

Is there anything else I could do?

[Bug 430245] Re: suspend/resume failure (ATI Mobility Radeon X700, kernel 2.6.31-10 Karmic Coala)

2011-05-14 Thread László Monda
Resume from suspend was being broken on my laptop for about half a year.
I've just found the http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=782782
thread and written the following script which works like a charm.

#!/bin/bash
gnome-screensaver-command -l
sudo /etc/acpi/sleep.sh force

I'm currently running Natty and using the radeon driver. Hope this
helps someone.

[Bug 430245] Re: suspend/resume failure (ATI Mobility Radeon X700, kernel 2.6.31-10 Karmic Coala)

2010-08-17 Thread skorqa
Hi,
I'm experiencing the same bug with an acer 1692 / ati x700
the kernel is a 2.6.32-24-generic-pae

the nomodeset workaround did not work for me

 with xserver-xorg-video-ati = 6.13.0-1ubuntu5
when booting with default options (radeon.modeset=1) i get this bug
when booting with radeon.modeset=0 the x server fails with 'couldn't find
valid pll dividers'

 with xserver-xorg-video-ati = 6.13.1-1ubuntu1~xup3~lucid
when booting with default options (radeon.modeset=1) i get this same bug
when booting with radeon.modeset=0 the x server starts but 'suspend'
results on locking the display (screensaver) and blanking the screen (reverted
by ctrl-alt-f1 / ctrl-alt-f7)

regards

fred

If adding nomodeset to the grub options doesn't work for you, try the
suggestions regarding ATI Radeon available at the following link:

A workaround is disabling KMS. I edited my /boot/grub/menu.ls adding
nomodeset to the line starting with # defoptions=

Then I had to run sudo update-grub. Now both resume and hibernation work
very well.

2010-04-05 Thread Matteo Zandi
I also have a x700 card

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility
X700 (PCIE)

Since Jaunty, the proprietary fglrx driver doesn't support my card any
more and that was the only way, at that time, to have suspend/resume
working properly.

With Karmic, suspend/resume has begun to work reliably with the open
source ati driver.

Now I updated to Lucid and suspend/resume has stopped working (with
lucid 2.6.32-19-generic kernel it doesn't even sleep, it simply hangs
when pressing suspend, with karmic 2.6.31-20-generic kernel it sleeps
but doesn't wake up).

I'm currently downloading mainline kernel to see if it solves the
problem.

[Bug 430245] Re: suspend/resume failure (ATI Mobility Radeon X700, kernel 2.6.31-10 Karmic Coala)

2009-09-20 Thread zvaral
** Description changed:

- My computer suspend properly but after waking up a blank screen is
- obtained seemingly without any working key combination: I can not change
- to a virtual terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1), I can not restart the X server
- (Ctrl+Alt+Bckspace) and also the built-in kernel emergency shutdown
- service is not available (Ctrl+Alt+SysRq+r+e+i+s+u+b).
+ Sep 20,2009
+
+ The below description was provided by a few days before. After that I
+ issued a dist-upgrade and a newer kernel ran on my system: 2.6.31-10.34
+ (instead of the earlier 2.6.31-10.32) and the problem seemed to be
+ solved. The computer resumes properly after a suspend. I have no idea
+ what the differences are but the systems behaves well now.
+
+ Sometimes, after resume, I have a flickering screen but changing to a
+ virtual terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and back (Alt+F7) solves this strange
+ behavior. Only once I experienced that the screen was white and slured
+ and the above key combinations had no any effect on it. I get suspended
+ the computer again and after the second resume it worked properly.
+
+
+ My computer suspends properly but after waking up a blank screen is obtained
seemingly without any working key combination: I can not change to a virtual
terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1), I can not restart the X server (Ctrl+Alt+Bckspace) and
also the built-in kernel emergency shutdown service is not available
(Ctrl+Alt+SysRq+r+e+i+s+u+b).

I think this problem relates to the driver of the graphics card.
According to my experience, suspend has never worked with the open
source fglrx driver for the ATI Radeon X700 card. And many people had
problem with the proprietary driver either. The latest proprietary
driver worked with X700 and suspend worked reliably was the driver
version 9.1. Since that I did not managed to obtain suspend properly.
Now I use the basic configuration of Karmic, proprietary driver is not
  available for Karmic.

My bug report relates to the one reported in connection with Ubuntu
  9.04: Bug #382575 [Acer, inc. Ferrari 4000] suspend/resume failure.
