Ubuntu karmic koala, i've the same problem. Problem was not present at ubuntu jaunty. Audio cdrom are mounted automatically but data cdrom not (iso9660, maybe udf too). This problem occurs with a USB modem device which contains a small iso9660 filesystem as well. I can confirm that it was working with Jaunty, but has not worked since.
