[Bug 433189] Re: snd-hda-intel: spurious response messages in dmesg - causes crackle
Had an experience, might help you smart people track down what the problem is: I've been having this problem for a few days now (even though I upgraded to 10.04 back in early may). Just formatted my / partition and downloaded/burned a 10.04 disc today (7/18) (for a few reasons, this being one of them). Out of the box, sound worked, boot was normal, and I received none of the spurious response errors. Updated everything in update-manager. activated nvidia prop. drivers (starts at 21:21:30 in log). Without rebooting, more updates appeared in update manager, and they were installed. Installed some inconsequential programs and rebooted. Sound still worked. Installed libxine1-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly and ubuntu-restricted-extras. Rebooted again and the problem is back in spades! I'm dubious that its the plugins or restricted-extras, so maybe like usual it was just the luck of the draw that let me reboot ok? Attached is tonights portion of dpkg.log (everything since the fresh install). ** Attachment added: dpkg log since fresh install http://launchpadlibrarian.net/52144427/dpkg%207-18-10 -- snd-hda-intel: spurious response messages in dmesg - causes crackle https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433189 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

You can avoid the Crackling by using alsamixer for the volume control... I don't know wether one can use alsamixer with his media keys, but it should help:) -- snd-hda-intel: spurious response messages in dmesg - causes crackle https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433189 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 433189] Re: snd-hda-intel: spurious response messages in dmesg - causes crackle
Hi Neil, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 433189 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.] ** Tags added: needs-kernel-logs ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing ** Tags added: kj-triage ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- snd-hda-intel: spurious response messages in dmesg - causes crackle https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433189 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 433189] Re: snd-hda-intel: spurious response messages in dmesg - causes crackle
I have the same problem on an acer aspire 751. Changing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf from the default: options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N to: options snd-hda-intel model=acer Seems to make the error go away. -- snd-hda-intel: spurious response messages in dmesg - causes crackle https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433189 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
