yes. most likely transitional. we had a slight version mismatch before. ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- [karmic] Wireless Networking broken on acer aspire one with Karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433721 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Pluged in via ethernet did another update and got a new network-manager- gnome package and some other updates and the problem is gone for me as well. [Bug 433721] Re: [karmic] Wireless Networking broken on acer aspire one with Karmic
Hmm that doesn't fix my problem -- the 5300 is mini pci-e using the pci part of that interface, not the usb portion. [Bug 433721] Re: [karmic] Wireless Networking broken on acer aspire one with Karmic
I could reduce the problem to my own stupidity. I was using the wrong wlan-usb-device which is not capable to do wpa2 encryption. Sorry for bothering. As far as i am concerned, there is no problem. -- [karmic] Wireless Networking broken on acer aspire one with Karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433721 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 433721] Re: [karmic] Wireless Networking broken on acer aspire one with Karmic
Oops my bad I didn't see that gavin reported this problem before the 22nd when 2.6.31-10-generic #35 was built. When i try to install an older kernel, sre...@sreyan-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.31-9-generic Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package linux-image-2.6.31-9-generic is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package linux-image-2.6.31-9-generic has no installation candidate Is there anyway to trick apt to think that package is there? or do i have to dig out that package and use dpkg to install it? -- [karmic] Wireless Networking broken on acer aspire one with Karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433721 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 433721] Re: [karmic] Wireless Networking broken on acer aspire one with Karmic
I have a karmic install upgraded from jaunty (with older grub). >From dmesg on a "bad" kernel uname -a: Linux sreyan-laptop 2.6.31-11-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 2 11:55:55 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux possibly relevant dmesg lines: [ 10.772300] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::radio [ 10.772365] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::assoc [ 10.772429] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::RX [ 10.772490] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::TX [ 10.813573] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready I tried the kernel before that: Linux sreyan-laptop 2.6.31-10-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 22 17:33:42 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux [ 11.324729] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready and I still see the bad behavior, though prior to updating and restarting last night I was not experiencing this issue. For what it's worth, the nm-applet displays wireless connections that i know exist nearby so i'm not sure it's a kernel problem. Lastly I have a different wireless card intel wifi 5300 than the standard AR5007 so I don't think it's an ath5k issue. I also have acer_wmi blacklisted from LP: #319825 so i don't think it's a repeat of that. ** Attachment added: "Wireless networks appear in nm-applet so i don't think it's solely a kernel issue." http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33116008/CanSeeWirelessNetworks.png -- [karmic] Wireless Networking broken on acer aspire one with Karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433721 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I tried to connect to another router with the same encryption, which worked perfectly. [Bug 433721] Re: [karmic] Wireless Networking broken on acer aspire one with Karmic
Gavin: did this for a couple of tries. Deleted the Connection and recreated it. Did not solve it for me. I guess, there is a problem while retrieving a network address. In the WLAN-Routers log i can see the connection, but without a IP-Adress. This works without problem with the my other machines and Jaunty (KDE 4.3.1) running. Alexander: how i can i boot another kernel? Grub 2 is not offering me a menu (not sure if it ever did). It just says that Grub is started, the screens runs blank and then i see the well known error "usb_id: unable to" errors. Do i have to activate the menu somehow? Theres no option for hitting ESC or something.
I managed to find a fix (or at least workaround) for this only a couple of days ago. I noted that I could connect to another access point and then thought I might delete and recreate the broken connection in network-manager. It worked perfectly from then on. It may still indicate a bug that this delete and recreate is necessary. Kelloggs: could you or did you try this?
