I have a very similar problem.
I'm running jaunty with growisofs 7.1.

The drive can burn DVD-R DL when I use Nero on Windows Pro 2000.

Same here on Ubuntu 9.10. DVD burning is completely not functional. I
get the following in my dmesg:

I have the same issue with wodim, when recording Double Layer DVD-R
disks through k3b:
