This bug has also cleared up for me following the latest updates (which did include a gdm update). -- GDM did not start automatic when the PC (IBM T42) boots. [Bug 440538] Re: GDM did not start automatic when the PC (IBM T42) boots. I have to restart it with "service gdm restart"
This was working fine for me for a while, but this behaviour has happened for the last two boots, since the updates on the 1st of October. I did $ sudo start gdm start: Job is already running at this point Ctrl-Alt-F7 does nothing, but Ctrl-Alt-F1 thru F6 work fine $ sudo restart gdm gdm starts normally. I am on amd64, upgraded from jaunty and I use the ubuntu-boot ppa. The problem disappeared mysteriously by itself with last update. Maybe the dpkg-update alone was enough. [Bug 440538] Re: GDM did not start automatic when the PC (IBM T42) boots. I have to restart it with "service gdm restart"
Hello, Same problem. Clean installation of Karmic beta on a eeePC, using the alternate install cd (on usb). /dev/sda and /dev/sdb are bundled in a raid0 configuration. My home directory is encrypted using the installer provided method. Even at the first start, I had to log in, sudo -s and restart gdm. gdm then starts fine. By looking at log files, I can see that no attempt to start Xorg is made. Attached are -the dmesg of my current session -the output of ps aux. status gdm tells gdm is on pid 784 ** Attachment added: "dmesg" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/32870273/dmesg -- GDM did not start automatic when the PC (IBM T42) boots.
