[Bug 442364] Re: kernel 2.6.28-15-generic for 9.04 will not allow my IBM T30 to boot.
Hi Dan, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 442364 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in the linux kernel. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Package changed: ubuntu = linux (Ubuntu) -- kernel 2.6.28-15-generic for 9.04 will not allow my IBM T30 to boot. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/442364 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, I have exactly the same problem with 9.10 and IBM Thinkpad A31p. I can boot 2.6.28-14-generic, but it locks the cpu on 2.6.28-15-generic, 2.6.28-16-generic, 2.6.31-14-generic. -- kernel 2.6.28-15-generic for 9.04 will not allow my IBM T30 to boot. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/442364 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 442364] Re: kernel 2.6.28-15-generic for 9.04 will not allow my IBM T30 to boot.
Costa, Shang helped me fix 2.6.28.15 and then 2.6.28.16 through the update manager presented no problems. However like you when I upgraded to 2.6.31-14 generic the boot failures started up again. cpu soft lock up was the error. So I pulled out that hard drive and threw in number 2 and loaded Linux Mint which is also debian based and uses gnome, synaptic, firefox, and all of the goodies that ubuntu offers plus it loaded all of the needed media codecs, addons, back ports, and drivers with the first update that happened right after I got my internet connection established. The developers of linux Mint are using a jaunty Kernel but actually are mirroring ubuntu on new releases and updates. I would like to be able to put my old hard drive back in and use ubuntu but I can't until a patch is released. I think that ubuntu developers are so tied up with other problems that this will take a back seat until they get other major problems fixed. Down load a torrent of linux Mint and enjoy as I am now until ubuntu is fixed for us. If Shang could offer any help on getting 2.6.31-14 generic working on our machines I would appreciate it immensely. Shang, The latest kernel did not work. The boot stalled again, so I moved on to part two of your e-mail. The first link would not load in the package manager so I went to synaptic and marked the header and it pulled the proper dependencies. Then I d-loaded the second link and then restarted the computer. And it boots fine now without having to load an older kernel from the grub loader. Thanks for all of your help. I learned a great deal.
