Aptdaemon hasn't got any access to the session of the user (by design). Steps to reproduce: 1. upgrade package using update-manager or installing packages using s-c 2. kill s-c or upgrade-manager during the installation 3. I'm trying to triage this bug for Ubuntu Software Center, but I don't understand it fully because there are no steps to reproduce it. Could someone update the description to include those steps? (I guess maybe aptdaemon should be responsible for that instead.)
