[Bug 449061] Re: [K8M800] Console screens unusable on Averatec 3280 laptop

2009-12-14 Thread Peter Belew
I have a new variant of this problem running Lucid beta-1 (with some
updates) on the same system: screen coordinates are shifted, and the
console tty's do not work. See Bug #495553 Screen origin shifted to
center, screen wraps, on Averatec 3280 with openchrome driver I'm not
sure whether this is the screen driver itself (the same thing happens
using the vesa driver) or higher up in xorg code.

serious.

[Bug 449061] Re: [K8M800] Console screens unusable on Averatec 3280 laptop

2009-10-14 Thread Bartosz
As I understand the problem exists between Jaunty and Karmic openchrome
revisions, and this is regression.
In Ubuntu Jaunty the openchrome revision is 1:0.2.903+svn713-1ubuntu1
In Ubuntu Karmic the openchrome revision is 1:0.2.903+svn758-0ubuntu1

Please build/install the openchrome driver with svn revision between
r713 (Jaunty) and r758 (Karmic)

Go back to the previous openchrome revision by type:
svn update -r739

Then check if this error still exists for this revision.

The information where exactly this error appears will be very useful,
and with this information I could create patch to resolve this bug.

Re: [Bug 449061] Re: [K8M800] Console screens unusable on Averatec 3280 laptop

2009-10-14 Thread Peter Belew
Just a few minutes ago, I tried switching to a console on this
Averatec 3280 laptop, and the text screen was normal - no flashing
colors. And the version of the driver is still

  $ dpkg -s xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

  Version: 1:0.2.903+svn758-0ubuntu1

So, as I was beginning to suspect regarding my similar bug report for
a desktop system, the cause must have been a change in some other
package, which was updated with the past 12 hours or so.

One thing that led me to suspect this was the fact that the behavior
was different among the Alpha-4, Alpha-6, Beta, and current updated
systems, when I tried them earlier.

See also #448911.

I'm quite pleased with this, but it is a mystery so far.

I'll update this if any regression occurs! :)

2009-10-13 Thread Bartosz
So the problem exists between openchrome svn713 (Jaunty) and svn758
(Karmic)

Go back to the previous openchrome revision between svn713 and svn758,
and check in which exactly openchrome revision this bug appeared.

For example:
Go back to the previous openchrome revision by type:
svn update -r739

next restart X and check if this error still appears.

[Bug 449061] Re: [K8M800] Console screens unusable on Averatec 3280 laptop

2009-10-13 Thread Peter Belew
What I have done so far is to boot the Alpha-4, Alpha-6, and Beta live
CDs.

This does not happen with those two Alpha versions.

With the Beta version, it's a bit different. When I switch to consoles 3
through 6, I get a blank screen, instead of the flashing colors, and I
don't seem to be able to log in (using a previously-set root password),
but I can switch back with alt-F7 to X.

Ctrl-alt-F2 gives me a screen showing messages about 'cardbus cards are
not supported' (reported in another bug report). Ctrl-alt-F1 shows some
startup messages.

The Beta is definitely using an openchrome driver along with vesa - that
shows up in Xorg.0.log.

I didn't check that in the Alpha versions - I'll go back and check
Alpha-6 ...

2009-10-13 Thread Peter Belew
Output from `dpkg -s xserver-xorg-video-openchrome:

The current package is version 1:0.2.903+svn758-0ubuntu1

The same version is in the beta CD.

And the same version shows on the Alpha-6 CD.

Could it be that some other module is causing this problem?
