If this is the future, openoffice team is going backwards. Currently their icon theme (http://ui.openoffice.org/VisualDesign/OOo30MimeType.html) has quite a distinct color range. If they implement the proposal shown here (http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/unified_odf_icons) everything will look blue and gray, the same, and in small icon sizes you will not be able to distinguish anything, other than paying attention to filename.
