This bug is this on for me as well, Ubuntu 12.04 (and 11.10). I experience this problem since more than a year. It might sounds like minor issue, but it's actually a very big issue usability-wise. I've had hundreds of times when I though I copy-paste properly and I didn't, because of that bug. It would be greatly appreciated if someone can investigate it and fix it. The bug is reproducible in all themes. Both Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V combinations are working in the edit area. Right-click an selecting Copy does work, but it's a painful process. Empathy is great, but I find this issue very annoying and a major usability problem. Please fix it. Still a problem in Precise. Please increase priority as others have said above. One note. When you select the text you want to copy, the selected text is dark-gray with light-grey selection background (instead of white on orange, like everywhere in ubuntu).
