[Bug 461723] Re: Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions: * Is this reproducible? * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? This will help us to find and resolve the problem. ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 461723] Re: Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly
Yes, it reproduces consistently, whether the X Server is started by GDM or xinit. The following 1 line .xinitrc reproduces it: exec /usr/bin/gnome-session --sync The exec and --sync are surely superfluous. netstat -anp after booting shows no port being occupied by a settings daemon; yet tail -f .xsession-errors shows new attempts about 1/(5s) . running $ gnome-settings-daemon --no-daemon ** (gnome-settings-daemon:12817): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome.SettingsDaemon ** (gnome-settings-daemon:12817): WARNING **: Could not acquire name Exits immediately with status 0. I think those warnings are an important clue. wireshark shows repeated attempts on addresses 127.0.0.1 ::1 to connect to TCP port 4713, which is unoccupied response is RST. These problems happen even if the iptables firewall is deactivated as shown by iptables -L -- Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 461723] Re: Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly
Those warnings are normal if Pulseaudio can't be started, and is really not a bug. ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 461723] Re: Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly
Since it seems to me usually desirable that the .xsession-errors recieve endless Warning entries about something that is not an error, I will convert this entry to 'Wish List'. Endless noise obscures true problems. Are other errors and messages related or separate? such as: - gnome-settings-daemon not running. - profuse Usage:program_name [address][:port] messages. It seems something is being called incorrectly. -- Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 461723] Re: Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly
It seems i can not change Importance to Wish List, but only set importance on new bugs i suppose. If some one else would change it to Wish List, I would like that. -- Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
