[Bug 463716] [NEW] Cannot use more than one sound device at a time

2009-10-29 Thread bigbrovar
Public bug reported:

Am on Kubuntu Karmic and am unable to use more than one sound device at
a time. For example If am playing music via MPD no other sound device
would work (amarok, vlc, skype, flash video etc) I will have to stop the
current sound application before am able to use another. (And when i say
stop I mean complete quit it not just pulse or stop) If am listening to
music and I want to make a skype call. I would have to quite the music
application otherwise the skype call will not go through. And during the
call I will be unable to use any sound device. Same for if am watching a
video on Vlc no other sound device would work (Not even system
notification sound)

I don't have pulse audio installed and this is my sound card

It sounds like you have pulseaudio installed and its interfearing with
your applications. TO get things to work, you can do one fo the
following:

* Remove the pulseaudio package
or
* Go into the settings for KDE's audio, and change the backend that phonon
should use to pulseaudio.
