same here. Fresh install of updates, then tried to right-click on the Background to context-menu the properties. gnome_appearance crashed before I could see a window. I also have to mention that I was successfully able to change the background few days ago (before the .18 kernel update). I just tried to get to open Appearance directly from the Preferences Menu List. Crashed without opening the window too. Appearance seems disfunctional at the moment. ubuntu 10.04 beta1 installed from CD clean, and updates from update manager. Then today I used update manager again, and saw 200 or more updates waiting so I accepted the install. A restart was required so I did that. After the restart, I wanted to look at themes, I am on the default theme at present, with the windows button positions slightly changed after a small edit a few days ago. I wanted to view other themes. 10.04 beta I don't like the default theme so, unlike my previous use of ubuntu I will certainly be making use of theme edit in future. The bug is the same but the release is 10.4 I was trying to change the theme.
