[Bug 464060] Re: 9.10 cannot use ibus or scim to input Chinese
Hello, Sorry to bump up a post that is months old. But I have this same problem. I have converted to IBus and deleted all previous things as per post #4. I am running 9.10 and the iBus input keyboard icon gives me no input possibilities. I want to get the Japanese input working, but the anthy crown never shows up when I expect it to (doing ctrl+space when typing into a document or something) -- 9.10 cannot use ibus or scim to input Chinese https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/464060 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 464060] Re: 9.10 cannot use ibus or scim to input Chinese
I switched to iBus after upgrading to Karmic but had duplicate language icons (keyboard with globe) displaying in my Gnome panel, which I have since discovered is a known issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/484537 I attempted to "remove" one of the duplicate icons from the panel, but unfortunately they both disappeared, and I haven't found a way to add the icon back to the panel. iBus still works fine but I can no longer use the Gnome panel to select the input method and have had to resort to having the iBus language panel always appear. [Bug 464060] Re: 9.10 cannot use ibus or scim to input Chinese
I have just upgraded to Karmic and cannot use either scim or ibus to input Japanese text. Here's what I have done to try to enable IBus: 1) Gone to System > Admin > Language Support and selected ibus as the input method 2) Clicked install/remove languages, selected Japanese and all its components including input methods. 3) Rebooted 4) Gone to System > Prefs > iBus Preferences. Ticked "show input method name on language bar" and set "Show language panel always" 5) On the Input Method tab, added Japanese - Anthy. 6) Opened firefox, put focus in Google search field. From the iBus menu bar icon, selected Japanese Anthy. **No Language Bar Appears**. The ibus menu bar icon **does not respond to clicks** for the next 10 seconds (approx). Text entered in Firefox appears in English. 7) While still in Firefox, hit Ctrl-Space, the shortcut configured for toggling IBus. **Firefox hangs for approx 10 seconds.** After it comes back, still no language bar and my text appears in English. -- 9.10 cannot use ibus or scim to input Chinese https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/464060 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 464060] Re: 9.10 cannot use ibus or scim to input Chinese
Arne. I think most people leaving a message here are those who cannot set the way they want by using default ibus setting. For example, I want (Quick) Chinese input method, which is not there by default. That's why I add a line in sources.list file. Secondly when I reinstall ibus, this message pops up. ## "IBus has been started! If you can not use IBus, please add below lines in $HOME/.bashrc, and relogin your desktop." This is for those who still cannot use ibus, even it is started. So this line is optional. Of course, after doing all that, I still need to go to System->Administration->Language to set my desired input method framework. BTW, I have to say this Ubuntu 9.10 is pretty good. I have a clean installation and the only two things I need to twist are Quick Chinese input and my webcam. The others are working prefectly. I am going to unsubscribe this post. The proper way on Ubuntu to enable IBus or any other input method framework is to use im-switch! @daqron: Please see comment #1 for how to fix your situation properly. @sunny: The proper way to enable ibus (or scim for that matter) is using language-selector. Nate, the fuzzy pinyin mode, like you call it, should be enabled by default. You can check it by doing the following: 1. activate IBus, by pressing CRTL+Space 2. select PinYin input method 3. in the IBus window the second icon from right (an 'i' in a square) leads to the configuration page for PinYin. 4. check if 'Wrong PinYin auto correct' is enabled. If it does not work for any letter like expected, please file a separate bug against the ibus-pinyin package. If you want to get SCIM back working like it was in Jaunty, install the necessary packages (scim-bridge-*, scim-pinyin, etc.) and after that start System->Administration->Language Support and switch the Keyboard input method to scim-bridge. [Solved] This is Sunny, who issued this problem yesterday and have solved it today. This is how I solved it. 1. Go to Ubuntu Software Centre and remove "scim" and "ibus" 2. Go to Terminal and delete ~/.scim 3. Reboot my machine. 4. Go to Ubuntu Software Centre and install "ibus". 5. Add the following at the end of ~/.bashrc export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus export xmodifie...@im=ibus export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus 6. Go to Language Support and add your language. 7. Run "IBus preference" and see your input method. 8. I can see my language setting on the "keyboard" icon ONLY when an application starts. ( If no application starts, the "keyboard" shows "No Input method" ) INTERESTING.
