I don't think it is reproducible, although it happens to me at least twice a week. Sometimes it seems to happen when the computer is working hard, but sometimes when the computer does almost nothing. It happens a lot when I use Open Office. Today I was working on my laptop with oo 3.1 (ubuntu 9.10) when suddenly the screen blacked out and some lines were on it, didn't have time to write them down at the moment. I had to shot it down and turn it on manually and lost lots of work and time. Didn't see any bug report that seemed to deal with it, sorry if there are.
