yes on default install on my toshiba laptop smb-client doesn't see windows
network - works sometimes on wired.
resolved the issue by installing samba (not just the client) so I assume the
client is missing a file or has a permission problem or the conf files are
different.

[Bug 47386] Re: Ubuntu Dapper Samba shares - broken for some

2009-01-07 Thread Will
hi guys just thought i'd add my findings.
i was getting the Error -1073741772: share not available when trying to
access my shares after an update some months ago. I noticed today that shares
could be accessed if they where ext2 or ntfs but if they were vfat then it
wouldn't work.
Formatted one of my drive to ext2 and it works fine now.

Unfortunately, this bug remains the same and is experienced by many, but not
all people. See the Ubuntu forum:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=784259

Although there is a workaround of modifying the LMHOSTS line in smb.conf
that will permit access to the shares, it is VERY SLOW yet a windows
machine accesses the shares so fast that they seem local. This isn't a
Ubuntu issue as I have experienced it on other distributions as well.

[Bug 47386] Re: Ubuntu Dapper Samba shares - broken for some

2008-05-24 Thread Sandeep Kundra
I also ran into this same exact problem; Samba shares worked without a
problem from Ubuntu 7.04 and upgrade to 7.10. Some relatively recent
patch(es) in about the April timeframe broke the connectivity. I
upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and the problem is still occurring.

I was able to get a partial solution by using webmin to work on the
smb.conf file, suggesting to me that this might be partially
configuration related.

I only have a partial solution as I have multiple shares and am now able
to access 3 of them (drives in NTFS format, moved over from Win2K
system; root/root owner/group 755 permissions) are working. The other
shares are consistently giving a Windows network access error (ext
format, fred/fred owner/group 755 permissions).

Like a number of other people I have removed and reinstalled Samba in
various configurations.

[Bug 47386] Re: Ubuntu Dapper Samba shares - broken for some

2006-06-18 Thread Adrian Klaver
Further testing has shown that Samba hangs on trying to resolve the
hosts file. Eliminating hosts from the resolve order allows smbclient to
do name resolution. In Konqueror using the Samba Shares link is still a
bust. However entering //hostname/servicename directly does work. Also
using Add a Network Folder to create a network folder works. Is seems
the problem lies in whatever program is called by Samba Shares.
