I'm having the same problem, these are really hard lock ups. Hi! I found out that this problem only appears when Ubuntu tries to use both screens with different screen resolutions. Workaround: Install aRandr and make layouts (profiles) where your beamer and Netbook have to use the same screen resoltution.
