We'd like to figure out what's causing this bug for you, but we haven't
heard back from you in a while. Could you please provide the requested
information? Thanks!

[Bug 476870] Re: Middle-click randomly kills synergyc

2011-01-31 Thread Leo Arias
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test a current, supported, Ubuntu version. If you can test it,
and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload
updated logs by running apport-collect 476870, and any other logs that
are relevant for this particular issue.

[Bug 476870] Re: Middle-click randomly kills synergyc

2009-11-23 Thread Ricky Brent
I found that, to summarize... if I have a 9 button on the mouse on the
server, but the client only has a 3 button mouse, synergy will crash
when I use one of those extra buttons. As some others have noticed,
it's whatever the last mouse used had.

As a work around for me -- and this is nowhere near a "good" solution,
but it beats losing my keyboard and mouse every time Synergy crashes --
I add a "trackstick.fdi" file to /etc/hal/fdi/policy/ :

 true
 2
 4 5
 26 27
 true
 200
 32

(I have a trackstick identified as "PS/2 Generic Mouse" on my Vaio P,
obviously.) This lets me do vertical scrolling while holding the middle
mouse button down, and since I don't have buttons 26 and 27 assigned to
do anything, doesn't let me scroll horizontally with the trackstick
(still works fine via Synergy.) The "Buttons" parameter seems to be
ignored. All the other buttons that are missing -- 8 and 9 for my mouse
-- also work fine.

Obviously this kind of kludge won't work for other people, but hopefully
it will help.

[Bug 476870] Re: Middle-click randomly kills synergyc

2009-11-12 Thread Stephen Ryan
That comment was mine; I've discovered something else today (also
posting this on the synergyplus issue tracker in case it helps the
author there). My client machine is a Thinkpad with two native pointing
devices, a Trackpoint pointing stick and a trackpad; "xinput list" says
that the pointing stick has 5 buttons and the trackpad has 12. The
server machine has a Logitech G5 laser and "xinput list" says it has 32
buttons, though there are only 8 physical buttons on the mouse.

If the last time I touched the laptop physically I used the trackpoint,
any attempt to use buttons 6,7 or 8 will crash synergyc with the
previously-mentioned error. If the last time I used the laptop I used
the trackpad (with 12 buttons), I can then use any of the mouse buttons
through synergy with no error. I think the "horizontal scrolling"
feature was a red herring, and all that mattered was that I'd used the
touchpad last, so it was the "active" pointing device and it had enough
buttons. Changing which pointing device was active last will toggle
whether the crash happens or not, quite reliably.

It looks to me like the X server in Karmic has tightened up the bounds
checking on the input devices and the mechanism that synergy is using to
inject input events doesn't take into account the fact that input events
might be injected from a more capable device than the ones physically
connected to the machine running the X server; this might be a bug in X
if synergy is using the mechanism correctly (I don't know, I'm in over
my head right here).

[Bug 476870] Re: Middle-click randomly kills synergyc

2009-11-10 Thread Cliff Barbier
The text of a comment to the Synergy+ bug I referenced above. This may
help as well.

I've been using synergy with Ubuntu as both server and client for many years; I
just
updated to Karmic and started getting these messages. Googling for the error
messages brought me here; I have updated to synergyplus. I think it happens
when the
client X Server doesn't think the connected mouse (mice) have as many buttons
as the
mouse on the server has; clicking one of the extra buttons just results in an
error.
I verified this with 'xte' from the 'xautomation' package; running xte and
typing
'mouseclick 6' simulates clicking the extra button on the mouse, and resulted
in the
same error. Since my client machine was a laptop with a touchpad, what I did
was to
enable the "horizontal scrolling" feature in Gnome's Mouse Preferences panel,
then
use the horizontal scroll feature for a second. This seems to have persuaded
my
client X Server that it now has lots of mouse buttons, and I can somewhat
reliably
use my extra mouse buttons through synergy.

HTH
