Some more observations. I've noticed that the memory usage of the sol process grows slowly over time, starting at 33M virtual 16M resident and rising to 44M virtual 26M resident just before crashing. Also, I just had it crash in a slightly different way. After running sol for a while I switch to another app to check memory usage and it crashed at that point. Once X had restarted I found a core dump of the app I'd switch to (a program of my own). I also get this crash quite predictably, any time I play AisleRiot Solitaire for much over 30 minutes. Happens all the time to my wife who playes spider a lot, to the point where she's regretting updating to karmic. She says that before it happens the cards will seem to stutter when she moves then fast. I tried disabling desktop effects to no benefit. Next, I'll try turning off UXA and go back to EXA. That should do it as UXA is mentioned in the backtrace at the top of this message. Intel X4500, x86_64. Also, a gentle nudge, is anyone working on this? The bug is still marked as incomplete, even though it appears the relevant logs have been attached. sigh. i forgot. EXA acceleration isn't available anymore. It was too stable... not shiny and new enough. (Yes, I'm aware why UXA is architecturally better, I'm just annoyed at major regressions in the stability of a highly visible driver, and that there's no way to fallback to the old, stable behaviour and I'm annoyed at hearing my wife swear at her computer all the time now... you'll have to excuse my frustration). Verified with Ubuntu 9.10 32 bit here. Processor is an Intel D Graphics card is an Intel. lspci output is: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) I think it's a 45000 HD or something like that. Either the computer will crash back to the login screen, or just shut off. I will also be willing to attach any relevant logs; I just don't know which ones would be relevant. I meant to write more information in the comment above, but here it is: I have a family member who uses Ubuntu exclusively and enjoys playing Solitaire for hours on end. Her computer has been crashing quite often. I'm not usually around to witness it, but every time I asked, she responds saying that all she was doing was playing Solitaire and she doesn't know what else happened.
