[Bug 478123] Re: Lost sound after upgrade to 9.10

2009-11-12 Thread Kelly
Actually I can't. I am back to having the newer kernel crashing on me.
I am back to using 2.6.28, I can at least work this way.

I guess I can just wait for a new kernel update and see if that works.

Ok, thanks for following up. Please run 'apport-collect -p alsa-driver
478123' when booted to the current 9.10 kernel, to get the full details
the audio folks will need to help you with this bug.

[Bug 478123] Re: Lost sound after upgrade to 9.10

2009-11-11 Thread Kelly
I'm sorry, I feel like I just wasted your time on this.

I booted into the old kernel because the new one was taking forever
(like 5 minutes) to boot into, then when it did boot, and I tried to
open a few windows, the windows would lock up and become unresponsive.

I just booted into the new kernel and it works now, (still took longer
to boot into, but works now).

I have 7 applications open, and still no crash.

So, my sound doesn't work here either!

Should I resubmit the bug?

[Bug 478123] Re: Lost sound after upgrade to 9.10

2009-11-09 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve
Ubuntu.

It appears that the problem you're experiencing is because you're still
running the old kernel from Ubuntu 9.04, despite having upgraded to
Ubuntu 9.10.

There are several ways that you can wind up booting an old kernel after
an upgrade. Bug #470490 describes one of the most common, and includes
instructions on how to correct your menu.lst if this is the problem
you're having.

Have you previously modified the grub menu.lst configuration on this
system? Were you prompted on upgrade whether you wanted to keep your
local modifications to menu.lst, or install the package maintainer's
version?
