Actually I can't. I am back to having the newer kernel crashing on me. I am back to using 2.6.28, I can at least work this way. I'm sorry, I feel like I just wasted your time on this. I booted into the old kernel because the new one was taking forever (like 5 minutes) to boot into, then when it did boot, and I tried to open a few windows, the windows would lock up and become unresponsive. I just booted into the new kernel and it works now, (still took longer to boot into, but works now). I have 7 applications open, and still no crash. So, my sound doesn't work here either! Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve Ubuntu. It appears that the problem you're experiencing is because you're still running the old kernel from Ubuntu 9.04, despite having upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10. There are several ways that you can wind up booting an old kernel after an upgrade. Bug #470490 describes one of the most common, and includes instructions on how to correct your menu.lst if this is the problem you're having. Have you previously modified the grub menu.lst configuration on this system?
