I'm using ubuntu Karmic with all updates. okay
When using emesene, i'm not able to activate webcam (even clicking onthe
webcam button) and i have a message :
You don't have libmimic, so you can't send or receive webcam

Falling into emesene forums, i foundthat:
ok, unfortunately this is not your fault, whoever packaged ubuntu's emesene
fucked up the libraries.. some ubuntu user should really file a bug about this

Hoping webcam issue with emesene will be fixed in the next updates !
