There is a 7-pin connector for TV-out! There is provided both a composite-signal and an S-video signal. With windows xp, one can get a signal from the s-video pins. The signal can be changed between PAL and NTSC. With kubuntu 9.04 there was a signal at the S-video pins or at the composite pins! Both only with NTSC format! No PAL With kubuntu 9.10 there is only a signal at the S-Video pin. Only NTSC, no PAL. The command xrandr --output TV TV_Format PAL or NTSC is ignored. With connector the same result. I tried the 2:2.10.0 driver from http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu It does'nt work at all. No change with the Xrandr command. I need the PAL-Signal, because the quality ist much better than the NTSC-signal. At the meantime I use a converter from S-video to Composite. This seems to be my problem, too. The option TV_Format PAL isn't honored in the xorg.conf nor by a xrandr command. With Windows XP it works! Ok i was about to give up on this. I also had the same problem, however i had also changed my laptops and never thought it just being a karmic problem. And just when i was about to give up i read your bug report. And yuppie i found a solution. Not elegant but it works. Here it comes. Disable kernel modesetting .. Thats it ... the driver behaves just like the old one and all is well again. There are plenty of instructions on google to do this, one way i used is to append nomodeset to kernel command line.
