I'm encountering this bug with Lucid. I have two different x86 systems - an Asus EeePC 1000 and a Dell Inspiron 2650. It fails on the EeePC with the same libhal message. GNOME-Device-Manager working in 9.10 with kernel 2.6.31-17-generic !!! It is definitely working with me in the following environment : 2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 16:20:31 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux ... and I'm glad about that 'cause I need it trying to answer the question why my sound hardware quit working right after activating the Freevo Media Centre (activated with Software-Center in menu Applications. GNOME-Device-Manager definitly works with this Karmic 9.10 kernel : 2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 16:20:31 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux I'm using it finding out why my sound hardware surprisingly failed right after activating the Freevo Media Centre home theater stuff ...
